PROMOTING
LaFAN
It
is in the interest of all participating organisations to provide
information to your subscribers regarding LaFAN, whether via newsletters
or mentioned in leaflets at animal-based events etc.
LaFAN brings together animal rescue organisations towards this common
necessity, enabling the simplest and best chance of reunification
between companion animals and their owners.
Please also download
the LaFAN poster
and display it in a public area of your organisation.
VERY
USEFUL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q.
Is there a charge to get on the network listing?
A. No, it is a completely free service.
More information about financial support for LaFAN can
be found here
(opens separate window)
(However small, VeggieGlobal and Looking-Glass would be grateful
for any support
your organisation can offer)
Q.
My rescue doesn't have a website. Can I still be listed with my
rescue name and phone number?
A. Yes you can. When you get to the
email application page, simply give us details of your rescue and
phone number, and if you do or do not wish your email address to
be shown (we recommend that you do not display your email address
since "spam bots" can pick this up and bombard you with
spam emails.) If you do aquire your own web site in the future you
will be required to add a LaFAN link and you must inform us of any
changes in this case.
NOTE: Only rescues without websites can apply for a "phone
only" inclusion. If you do have a web site a LaFAN network
link is mandatory.
Q.
My rescue doesn't have a lost and found page because it doesn't
have the facilities to look after found animals. Due to our limitations
are there still procedures to enable us to provide a lost and found
service?
A. It makes no difference whether or
not your rescue is able to kennel animals reported lost. The purpose
of the Lost and Found network is to steer the public towards the
closest resource and proximity of a lost, found or even "seen"
animal. For example, it may be that your local police station is
kennelling a lost dog, so it's necessary that you liaise with your
local police station so that they inform you when they have a lost/found
animal - or even if they have been provided details of lost animals.
So ask the local police to keep in touch with you with their reports
etc, so that you can quickly provide this information on your site's
lost and found page. Therefore, please set up a LaFAN linked "lost,
found and seen" page so you can keep your local community informed,
and of course provide access for Lost Animal Photo Tracking (see
next question).
Q.
Tell me more about Lost Animal PhotoTracking.
A. LaFAN has created the term Lost
Animal Photo-Tracking to encourage the public to make use of phone
camera technology when spoting a lost animal, and therefore instant
delivery of pictures via email to you, the rescue group and thereafter
straight on to your web site. More public info can be found
here.
Photo-Tracking should help to dramatically speed up the potential
re-unification of an animal and its owner, so we are making sure
the message of this practical concept gets out to the general public.
This is why we encourage you to make sure your lost and found web
page is designed to display "seen" animals. This is an
important point.
Q.
My organisation is not working in an area which enables direct interactions
with lost and found animals through the internet. Can I still help
to promote the network in some way?
A. Yes, most certainly. You can still
download the graphic and add a link to LaFAN from your website and
download a poster to display at your premises … This would be very
helpful. (Remember you can always apply to be included in the Charity
Directory
or the Veggie,
Animal and Environmental Groups Directory
here at VeggieGlobal and Looking-Glass.)
Remember also that if you do have a website you can still create
a lost and found page which focusses more on "seen" animals,
which means you can participate more with Lost Animal Photo-Tracking
actions.
