Q.
Why can't I see any ads in the area or category I'm looking at?
A. First,
please accept our apologies for not finding an ad in the area you
are searching.
Some very important things you need to know are ...
Primarily, this non-profit site does not entertain unwarranted displays
of g**gle style "pay per click" ads that you see on many
websites. For various reasons, VeggieGlobal has determined that
"PPC" advertising often delivers highly inaccurate results
for our site visitors - and secondly, the extent to which such streaming
ads clutter web pages with irreverent junk would prove to be nothing
but a vulgar way to run a quality classified ads area!
Vegetarian Classifieds is a supplementary support area of VeggieGlobal
and Looking-Glass and the "donate to advertise" scheme
here is designed to help with the campaigns and good cause programmes
running across this entire non-profit web retreat. This is NOT a
commercial business but instead run purely on an exhaustive, voluntary
basis.
VeggieGlobal recognizes that a concise, uncluttered classifieds
area is a service that all vegetarians essentially need … a resource
without confusing (and often abused) user reviews and comments (see
below) and as already mentioned, no irrelevant
streams of G**gle adverts on these pages either.
Similar to a straightforward yellow pages type phone book, this
site provides "hand-applied" ad space for veggie / animal
/ environmental services across the world for easy referral both
locally for you and while on your travels.
So, if
categories are empty, advertisers have not yet applied to fill them
... and this is where you can
help us to help you!
Whichever area of the world you live in please tell your local veggie
restaurant, guest house, retreat or animal friendly service to advertise
here (very cheaply!).
They WILL be seen in these ads by thousands like yourself each week,
due to its overall No1 search engine position. Spreading the word
to actual owners of veggie establishments will help them and your
local veggie community benefit from this unified resource ... bringing
customers and exposure to and from all corners of the world.
The money (donations) that the sites receive from the adverts will
help to keep the campaigns and good-cause projects of this huge
non-profit web retreat alive and in turn the charitable causes we
represent and work with. It's in the interests of ALL veggie and
compassionately spirited people to try and make the Vegetarian Global
Classifieds deliver what it aims to promise.
VeggieGlobal Classified yearly ads cost just over 1 GBP donation
per week with an extra 3 months free as an introductory offer. Some
advertisers may offer you our five or ten percent discount voucher
incentive scheme. This means that by simply subscribing free to
VeggieGlobal you can collect your voucher and use it at the places
offering the discount. (You need to subscribe free to VeggieGlobal
before picking up your voucher)
So please bear with VeggieGlobal as the classifieds pages begin
to fill up!
Q.
How careful is VeggieGlobal about what it allows to be advertised
on the Classifieds section?
Contact
VeggieGlobal if you may have discovered that any
advertiser on our vegetarian classifieds site is not adhering to
this sites ethical policy.
A.
When a company
approaches VeggieGlobal to advertise on the Classifieds here, we
take a good look at their website (if they have one). Providing
their service doesn't make false representations or have misinformed
us when using our strict questionnaire on the application form,
we will normally accept their advert.
If they don't have a website we will try and resource more information
about their services through correspondence and other recommendations.
However, there are lots of companies and services jumping on the
veggie / organic / green bandwagon, who clearly haven't done any
research as to what exactly constitutes vegetarian, organic or green!
For example a company contacted us regarding advertising their "vegetarian
cuisine tours" … at first it sounded a reasonable service to advertise
until we gave their website a closer look … The first thing we came
across was their itinerary that included a visit to a Parmesan cheese
factory! We politely pointed out to them that Parmesan rennet (from
that very factory) is made from the stomachs of calves … and that
Parmesan is not vegetarian. We never heard back from them about
this, but the last time we checked their site they were still promoting
this non-vegetarian itinerary!
Even some vegetarian guide books advertise restaurants and guest
houses that provide "vegetarian dishes" on a mainly meat menu, which
seems rather irrelevant since most restaurants do this anyway. Surely
a Vegetarian restaurant guide book should be solely what it states
to be? VeggieGlobal will only advertise pure veggie establishments
in the restaurants and travel sections and have a specific criteria
regarding other services as to their policies on any animal derived
products. An advertiser also has to fill out a carefully worded
form and agree to the terms and conditions before and when submitting
an advert, and as mentioned every care is also taken to check out
the service of the potential advertiser.
So, when we say we advertise
ONLY vegetarian restaurants / guest-houses etc. rather than "omnivorous"
restaurants, we mean it, so site visitors can be assured that they
don't have to wade through an irrelevant list of unsuitable eateries!
In fact, if you do discover that any restaurant / guesthouse / holiday
advertised here is not exclusively veggie then contact
us with proof, so we can investigate. If it is determined
that they are not vegetarian, their ad will be removed.
This list tells potential
advertisers (when applying) what we do NOT advertise at VeggieGlobal's
Vegetarian Classifieds:
- No ads which in any way exploit
animals or the environment.
- No restaurants / guest-houses
etc. which are actually omniverous establishments but advertising
"vegetarian" options.
- No exotic pet sellers.
- No breeders.
- No businesses selling meat, leather
or fur - or items manufactured that cause irreversible impact
on the environment (i.e. wood from unsustainable forests).
NOTE: Items derived from animals that have died of natural causes
are marginally acceptable as long as the advertiser can provide
clear ethical evidence. (advertiser must contact VeggieGlobal
with a specific request in this case)
- No so-called flexitarian or pescitarian
based businesses.
- No appointment ads by charities
which test on animals. No religious organisations. No charities
dealing with self-inflicted human health conditions (i.e smoking,
obesity)
- No businesses which supply non-environmentally
friendly products or services.
- No religious organizations.

this sites ethical policy.
Q.
What's the main difference between this classifieds site and other
websites advertising veggie restaurants?
A.
On the internet there are hundreds
if not thousands of eating guides which contain sections for vegetarian
restaurants… as well as veggie sites covering some restaurants.
First of all VeggieGlobal Classifieds advertises ONLY vegetarian
/ vegan restaurants and guesthouses - not "omnivorous" claiming
to be veggie friendly etc. A lot of veggies simply don't trust omnivorous
restaurants when searching for a real veggie meal. It may be argued
that chefs who truly understood the compassionate ethics of being
vegetarian wouldn't have any animal derived products anywhere near
their kitchen!
So here at VeggieGlobal's Classifieds you don't have to wade through
lots of irrelevant listings to find veggie only eateries and places
to stay - because to the best of our knowledge they all are … and
if you discover any of them aren't please contact
us so we can look into it.
Q.
Why don't you provide customer reviews?
A.
Anyone who understands how web site
"add comment / review" forms work, will realise how much
they are notoriously misused.
With wildly conflicting opinions, resulting in over-the-top ravings
on one hand and damning reviews on the other, a pattern of fallacious
testimonials emerge. Take restaurants for example. While one restaurant
- plus their friends and relatives - can easily add great reviews
about themselves, other rival establishments can just as easily
post negative reviews to turn customers away! In between this, "real"
customers often provide bizarrely diverse viewpoints showing how
personal taste can colour or discolour truths. "Each to their own"
as the saying goes, but do such comments actually tell the real
story about any establishment, or with any product for that matter?
And so, although the provision of customer reviews can sometimes
offer a vague idea of what to expect, you can often be left more
confused (or even falsely swayed) by scrolls of vastly conflicting
opinions.
With tastes and expectations being so subjective, and therefore
unreliable, VeggieGlobal suggests that trial and error, through
actually making your own choices, is the most realistic way to find
out if a restaurant, guesthouse or any service is the right one
for you.
If you want to get a more realistic review of, for example a veggie
restaurant, then quality independent journal reviews might provide
a more honest and critical opinion about an establishment. But most
of all, pragmatism and relying on your own intuition should help
you make the best choice in the end.
NOTE: On rare occasions amongst the
classifieds you may see a VeggieGlobal recommendation. This accolade
means that the advertiser may have been visited anonymously by VeggieGlobal,
usually on more than one occasion, and we have found the service
to meet our highest standards in exceptional quality, ambience and
friendly service. Their classified advert has then been awarded
with an additional notable comment by VeggieGlobal. This doesn't
mean however that non-commented establishments featured in the classifieds
may not be of a similar standard, since VeggieGlobal cannot possibly
travel the world to asses them all! (VeggieGlobal is carefully creating
an unbiased listing of restaurants, guesthouses and retreats, and
a specific awards programme will probably be set out here in the
future)
Why is
the Classifieds search engine not very consice with results?
For the moment VeggieGlobal can't
afford to have its own fine-tuned search engine so unfortunately
you'll find that the boxed "ads" search results page are
sponsored ads links downloaded by the software company who own the
search engine. So the best thing to do is to ignore the sponsored
ads in the boxes on the search results page. Also the results with
the classifieds site are not very clear. Again this is beyond our
control at this time. However, to achieve better results simply
enter the exact town you are looking for in the search box, and
if it is featured in VeggieGlobal Classifieds then it will clearly
show up in the search results. But above all we recommend that you
simply browse your way to the area you are interested in by using
the links on the classifieds pages and left menu.
Q.
What are the other rather irrelevant shopping ads that I can see
on some areas of VeggieGlobal & Looking-Glass?
A.
Firstly,
you wont find any of those distracting "pay per click"
streams of G**gle adverts vulgarizing the pages of VeggieGlobal's
Classifieds. On these pages the Classifieds are concise and uncluttered.
The unrelated banners you might see on the Good Cause Shopping /
Amazon areas of the sites are generic ads through affiliation web
companies who display their own links.
VeggieGlobal & Looking-Glass receive a few pennies from a sale if
a site visitor buys a product through those links. However in the
grand scheme of things, VeggieGlobal & Looking-Glass receive next
to nothing from those banner links; simply because most people visit
us for the specific purpose of finding veggie / animal or environmentally
related material - not so much to go shopping! However we do make
a point of encouraging our site visitors to use the Mall Across
the World or High Street Wonderland good cause shopping areas, purely
because every penny helps towards the running of this important
resource and therefore the campaigns and charitable causes it represents.
Apart from Amazon, (through which we provide an interesting mix
of books, music and films) we would rather get rid of other, mostly
irrelevant banner ads - and this would be possible if the VeggieGlobal
Classifieds picks up. It would be far preferable to have adverts
mainly in the Classifieds section that relate more specifically
to this sites main mission and philosophy.

policies please
